Eben Alexander (S&B 1873)

7 Apr 1893 to 1 Aug 1897 - Envoy Extraordinary and Minister to Romania by President Grover Cleveland. (Presented credentials 15 Jun 1894)

1893 to 29 Jun 1897 - Envoy Extraordinary and Minister to Greece by President Grover Cleveland.

25 Aug 1892 to 29 Jun 1894 - Envoy Extraordinary and Minister to Serbia by President Grover Cleveland. (Presented credentials 29 Jun 1894)

Helped revival of the Olympic Games, making the first cash contribution to the organizing committee, encouraging the participation of American athletes, and with his wife hosting numerous social events during the period of the games, which range from 6 Apr to 15 Apr 1896)

1886 to 1893, moved to the University of North Carolina. Professor of Greek Language and Literature. Serving as supervisor of the University Library between 1891 to 1893 and again from 1901 onwards. During his tenure as supervisor, a new Carnegie library was built, and the University hired its first real librarian, Louis Round Wilson (became President of the American Library Association). That Carnegie library built under Alexander’s tenure is now Hill Hall on the campus of the University of North Carolina.

Taught at the University of Tennessee (first as instructor and then as a Professor)

1873 - Graduated Yale, Skull and Bones Patriarch.

Died 11 Mar 1910, died suddenly. Age 59.
