25 May 2006 - Lay was found guilty on six counts of conspiracy and fraud by jury. In a separate bench trial, Judge Lake ruled that Lay was guilty of four additional counts of fraud and making false statements. Sentencing was scheduled for 11 Sept 2006.

7 Jul 2004, Lay was indicted by a grand jury in Houston, Texas, for his role in Enron’s failure. Lay was charged, in a 65-page indictment, with 11 count of securities fraud, wire fraud and making false and misleading statements.
From 1989 to 2002, Lay’s political contributions totaled $5.8 million, with 73% going to Republicans, and 27% going to Democrats.[2]

By this 1980’s energy was deregulated, and he took advantage of the new climate when Omaha-based InterNorth bough his company Houston Natural Gas and changed the name to Ernron in 1985.
1982 - Joined Transco Energy Company, owner of the Transcontinental Pipeline, becoming President, Chief Operating Officer and director until 1984, when he became chairman and CEO of the Houston Natural Gas Company.
1981 to 1982 - President of Continental Resources.
1974 to 1982 - Executive at Flordia Gas Transmission.
Until 1974 - Energy deputy under secretary for the United States Department of Interior, Secretary Rogers Morton (Delta Kappa Epsilon. Brother Thruston Ballard Morton Jr, S&B 1954) by President Richard Nixon (Bohemian) and Gerald Ford (Freemason).
1971 to 1972 - Technical assistant to commissioner and vice chairman (federal energy regulator) of the Federal Power Comission.
1968 to 1971 - United States Navy. He rose to rank of lieutenant and was the the special assistant to the Navy Comptroller and Financial Analyst at the Office of Assistant Secretary of the Navy in the Department of the Navy at The Pentagon. Died 5 Jul 2006, from Heart Attack whilst on vacation awaiting sentencing. Age 64.
His funeral was attended by George W. H. Bush (Skull and Bones) and James Baker.
Enron even bought journalists and intellectuals, paying them outrageously high fees to speak or consult with the corporation, financing, for instance an Enron Chaire, in James Barker’s institute at Rice University.[3]
