24 May 1870, Fenian Army of Vermont, Grant issues a proclarmation against the attempts of the Fenian Brotherhood to damage Anglo-United States relations by attacking Canada. The next day, the Fenian Army of Vermont attempts to invade Canada but is driven back. The Birtish Government agrees to handle the compensation for Canada in the Treaty of Washington, signed 8 May 1971.

Major Parker told of being taken to headquarters as a prisoner of war, that General Grant asked him if he was a Freemason and that the prisoner soon convinced him of it and thereupon was promptly freed.”1 However, 10,000 Famous Freemasons reports that Grant was not a Mason, but had a number of close associations with the craft.2 Jonas Mill Bundy was a prominent Illuminatus who advised Presidents Grant, Garfield, and Arthur.3 Grants father was a Mason, as was his grandfather.
