Represented the Vanderbilt family until he drowned at Sea in the Sinking of Lusitania in 1915.
The power of The Order [Skull and Bones] is reflected in a bizzare incident as Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt (S&B 1899) boarded the Lusitania in New York on its fatefall voyage. A Telegram warning Vanderbilt (S&B 1899) not to sail was delivered to the Lusitania before it sailed - but never reached Vanderbilt. Consequently, Vanderbilt went down with the ship.[1]

Died 7 May 1915, from drowning, having not received the telegram to not board the Lusitania. Age 37.

Father, Cornellis Vanderbilt II was a business partner with Leonard Jerome and American Financier. Jerome’s daughter Jennie Spencer-Churchill American-born British Socialite, was the wife of Lord Randolph Churchill (Freemason. Bullingdon Club) and the mother of British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill (Freemason), who is connected with the events surrounding the sinking of the RMS Lusitania.
