David Charles Grimes (S&B 1948) - same year as George H. W. Bush (S&B 1948. Freemason. Bohemian)

Businessman. Yale University. Skull and Bones. Clare College, Cambridge University.

His long record of service to the University includes terms as president of the Yale Club of Dallas, and as a director of that club and the Yale Club of Southern California. He was a member of the executive committee of the Yale Alumni Board for several years, eventually serving as vice chair and chair. He was a member of the Commission on Alumni Affairs (the Dwyer Commission) and was elected in 1972 as chair of the Founding Board of the Association of Yale Alumni. In 1973, he was awarded the Yale Medal for “outstanding service” to the University, and in 1974, he was elected an alumni fellow of the Yale Corporation.[4]

Mr. Grimes’ professional affiliations included serving on the advisory committee to the Commissioner of Savings and Loan for the State of California. He was also active in many community causes.[4]

A longtime friend of President George Bush (S&B 1948), Mr. Grimes (S&B 1948) represented Bush (S&B 1948) on several State Department trips to Bulgaria.[4]

1967 - “…The entire savings and loan system would be strengthened, in fact, by expanding holding company ownership through approved mergers when the public interest is best served. We suggest the reasonable and constructive policy for the Congress to continue to pursue is that which encourages expanding the capability of the savings and loan industry to attract capital in a free, competition market, including the savings of the public invested through the diversified holding company intermediary, thereby strengthening its private resources and reducing its reliance on already-burdened Federal government agencies.”[5]

1965/66 to TBC. Later than 1967 - President, Chairman of Frist Brentwood Corp principal subsidary Brentwood Saving & Loans.[2][4]. First Brentwood Corp is a wholly-owned subsidary of Jim Walter Corporation, listed on the NYSE. Aggregated assets of $500m (1967 or $3.8b 2019). Subsidaries include Celotex Corp (manufacturing) and South Shore Oil and Development Company and the Sugar company The Sourth Coast Corporation. [5]

1951 - Joined the Republic National Bank (Dallas), as a clerk in the petroleum department.[4]

1950 - Reporter, Wall Street Journal in New York City and Dallas, Texas.[4]

WW2 - 1943 to 1946 - Ensign Pilot, US Navy Air Corps.[2][4]

Mellon Fellowship to Clare College, Cambridge University.

1948 - Graduated Yale, Skull and Bones Patriarch.[1]

Died 6 Jan 1999, from Lung Cancer. Age 73.
