Elmer Holmes Davis (Rhodes 1910)

Radio Commenator for ABC. Aurora High School. Franklin College. Phi Delta Theta. Rhodes Scholar, Queens College, Oxford University. Council on Foreign Relations.

Former radio commentator.

Davis was considered to be one of the greatest news reporters of the mid-20th century, on a level with Edward R. Murrow. Among the many awards Davis received were three Peabody Awards, including an award during its inaugural year. Foreign governments also recognized Davis when he was inducted into the Dutch Order of Orange-Nassau and the Czechoslovak Order of the White Lion, among others.[4]

United States Government thanked him for his wartime work with the Medal of Merit.[4]

25 Jun 1974 - The Indiana Society of Professional Journalists made Elmer Davis a member of their Hall of Fame.[4]

In 1946, Davis received the Alfred I. duPont Award. - WHO Radio, Des Moines.[3] - WFIL Radio, Philadelphia.[3]

WW2 - 1942 to 1945 - Director of Office of War Information by President Franklin D. Roosevelt (Freemason).

1928 - Published his one and only novel Giant Killer, a retelling of the Biblical story of David.

1921 - Published, History of the New York Times 1851 to 1921.

Died 18 May 1958, complications from a stroke. Age 68.
