General Solicitor of the Chicago & Alton and the Michigan Central Railroads. He was a member of the law firm Winston, Payne, Strawn & Shaw of Chicago and was considered an authority on matters of corporate law.[5]
1893 - Influential in securing the location of the World’s Fair of 1893 in Chicago. The fair became a demonstration piece for Westinghouse Electric and the alternating current (Tesla), The fair ended with the city in shock, as popular mayor Carter Harrison, Sr (Scroll and Key) was assassinated by Patrick Eugene Prendergast who days before the fair’s closing. Closing cermemonies were cancelled in favor of a public memorial service.
1883 to 1886 - Corporation Counsel, when he became Solicitor of the Michigan Central Railroad Company.
1882 to 1883 - Assistant Corporation Counsel.
Became a partner in his father’s in the newly organised firm of F H & F S Winston.
1877 - Graduated Yale, Skull and Bones Patriarch.[1]
Died 3 Jul 1909, from TBC. Age 52
Eldest son of Hon. Frederick Hampden Winston (LL B Harvard 1853), and grandson of Rev Dennis Mervyn Winston (Hamilton 1825). Father was a leading railroad corporation lawyer in Chicago, twelve years President of Lincoln Park Commissioners, and the United States Minister to Persia under President Cleveland in 1885.
