1923, with his sister, Miss Laura C. Barnum, gave to Yale the Barnum homestead at Lime Rock, to be known as the Charlotte Burrall Barnum House; member American Historical Society and St Thomas* Episcopal Church, New York City.[4]

Since 1913, President Pacific Coast Company, a holding company controlling mines, railroads, and other properties on the Pacific Coast, and chairman of board at time of death.[4]

1908 to 1912 - Chairman reorganization committee of McCall’s Ferry Power Company.[4]

1904 to 1908 - Member of banking firm of Harvey Fisk & Sons.[4]

1884 to 1904 - Co-founder, Member of firm of Simpson, Thacher & Barnum and its successors, Reed, Simpson, Thacher & Barnum and Simpson, Thacher, Barnum & Bartlett, (among his partners were Thomas Thacher (S&B 1871), Alfred B. Thacher,‘74, Philip G. Bartlett (S&B 1881), Charles B Eddy, ‘93, and Graham Sumner (S&B 1897).[4]

1897 to 1900, Chairman, 1898 to 1914, Director - Yale Alumni University Fund Association.[4]

1893 until his Death - Alumni Fund Agent for Class of 1877.[4]

2 Jun 1879, Married Anne theresa, daughter of Walter and Eliza Ann (Schenck) Phelps.

Died 10 May 1926, from an operation. Age 70.

Father, William Henry Barnum (Freemason), member of the Congress from 1867 to 1879; chairman of Democratic National Executive Committee in campaigns of 1880 to 1884. Descendents of Thomas Barnum.
