Director of several companies, including American Trading Company (vice-president 1902-15), Bethlehem Steel Corporation, McKesson and Robbins, Inc., National Fuel Gas Company, Bridgeport City Trust Company, Kingsport Press, and United States Industrial Alcohol Company.[4]

Mother, Esther Judson (Goodsell) Jennings; daughter of David Judson and Ellea (O’Brien) Goodsell of New York City. Yale relatives include: Walter Jennings (S&B1880) (brother), Lewis B. Jennings (B.A. 1847) (uncle); Oliver B. Jennings, ‘17, Oliver B. James, ‘18, and Hugh D. Auchincloss, ‘20 (nephews); Charles B. Jennings, ‘87, William G. Rockefeller, ‘91, Percy A. Rockefeller, ‘00 (first cousins).

His maternal aunt, Almira Geraldine Goodsell, was the wife of Standard Oil co-founder William A. Rockefeller, Jr. Through his sister Emma, he was the uncle of Hugh D. Auchincloss, whose third wife was Janet Lee Bouvier, mother of First Lady Jackie Kennedy.
