Philip Gray Russell (S&B 1876)

Law;Yale University. Skull and Bones.

Son of William Huntingdom Russell (Co-founder of Skull and Bones)

Personal friend of John Brown (Freemason. Abolitionist), whose execution contributed to the American Civil War.

He was a descendant in the sixth generation of Noadiah Russel of Middletown, one of the founders of Yale College, and of Rev James Pierpont, also one of the founders of Yale College, whose daughter Mary married Rev. William Russell (the son of JSToadiah) (Yale 1709), Fellow of the Yale Corporation irom 1745 to 1761 and foity-six years pastor of the First Church in Middletown.[6]

All of his male ancestors have been graduates ot Yale since the foundation of the college. His mother was the daughter of Dr Thomas Hubbard, Professor of Surgery in the Yale Medical School. Atter graduation he entered the Yale Law School and received the degiee ot LL.B m 1878, meantime teaching in the Collegiate and Commeicial Institute founded and conducted by his father, where he had been himself prepared for college In September, 1S78, he went to Washington, D. C, where he afterward resided and practiced his profession.[6]

For over three years and until January, 1882, he was Examiner in the U.S.,Patent Office.[6]

He then formed a partnership with George S. Prindle for the practice of patent law, under the name of Prindle & Russell, which continued during his life. He was prosperousin his profession, traveled extensively, and was much interested in scientific subjects outside of his professional work.[6]

He married, on December 17, 1884, Lilean, daughter of John E. and Ellen T. Kendall of Washington. She died in 1886, leaving no children.[6]

1876 - Graduated Yale, Skull and Bones Patriarch.[1]

Died 21 Jul 1900, from acute nephritis, his vigorous health having been previously impaired by appendicitis, requiring a severe operation.[6] Age 46
