1907 - Defended the Powder Trust in the suit against the United States Government under the Sherman AntiTrust Act (1890)[2]
1904 to 1912 - Trustee of the New York Law School.[]2
1903 to 1913 - He formed and was general Counsel of EJ. du Pont de Nemours Powder Company (known as the Powder Trust).[2]
1889 - Appointed to the position of recorder of the General Land Office in Washington D.C. by President Bejamin Harrison.
1887 to 1912 - Appointed Lecturer on Transfer of Monetary Securities in the Yale Law School.
1884 - Elected to the Indiana House of Representatives.
1882 to 1902 - Practiced alone, when, with Brainadr Avery, he formed the firm of Townsend & Avery, which afterward, with the addition of William H Button, beame Townsend, Avery Button.
1882 - Became a member of the firm Chittenden & Hubbard, which was soon changed to Chittendden, Townsend & Chittenden, his partners being Lucius Eugene Chittenden and his son, Horace Hatch Chittenden, Mr Townsend’s classmate
1874 - Graduated Yale, Skull and Bones Patriarch
Died 17 Jun 1913, from several months of illness. Age 71.
Note: Regarding General Land Office … connection with failed The Morrill Land Bill (vetoed by President Buchanan), but signed by President Lincoln as the Land Grant College Act, donated public lands for State Colleges of agriculture and science. Daniel C. Gilman (S&B1952) was ready and first on the scene. No other institution received even a whisper until 1893, when Storrs Agriculture College received a land grant.[1,p61,62)
