James Osborne Putnam (S&B 1839)

Lawyer. Politician.

Personal friend of William M. Evarts (S&B 1837), on whose recommendation he was appointed Minister to Belguium.[5]

1895 to 1902 - 4th Chancellor of the University of Buffalo.[5]

1881 - United States delegate to the International Industrial Property Congress at Paris.[5]

1880 to 1882 - United States Minister to Belgium by President Rutherford B. Hayes, James A. Garfield and Chester A. Arthur.[5]

1860 - Presidential Elector at large for Abraham Lincoln and Hannibal Hamin.[5]

1857 - American Party candidate for Secretary of State in York.[5]

15-Mar-1855 - He married Kate F. Wright (1835–1895), and they had three sons.[4]

1854 to 1855 - State Senator.[5]

Died 24 Apr 1903, Age 84.
