In Bartlett Giamatti’s [Scroll and Key. Son Paul (S&B 1989). Yale President 1978 to 1986)] words, Sidney Lovett (S&B 1913) was someone who “embodied all that Yale stood for and wanted to be. Perhaps no other Yale person in this century touched as many lives in this community and beyond.

1959 - Appointed Vice President of Yale-in-China, now known as Yale-China, an organisation with close ties to Yale, which had established educational programs in China, moving to Hong Kong in 1949, when the Communists came to power. Yale-in-China entered into a cooperative program with New Asia College in Hong Kong. Mr. Lovett spent the year following his retirement in Hong Kong, where he represented the trustees of Yale-in-China at new Asia College.[7]

1933 - Advocated for a Jewish counseling program for the Jewish students at Yale, this program eventually evolved into the Yale Hillel Foundation.[6]
