George Dunton Widener
American Businessman and Bibilophile. Member of the Widner family.
Joined his fathers business and eventually too over the running of the Philadelphia Traction Company, overseeing the development of a cable and electric streetcar operations.
Served on the board of directors of several businesses, including Philadelphia Traction Co, Land Title Bank and Trust Co. Electic Storage Battery Co.
Electric Storage Battery Co. was promoting ALL electric cars from 1910.
Director of the Pennsyvania Academy of Fine Arts.
In 1912, Widener, his wife, and their son Harry traveled to Paris, France, with original intentions to find a chef for Widener’s new Philadelphia hotel, The Ritz Carlton. The Wideners booked their return passage on RMS Titanic. After the ship struck an iceberg, Widener placed his wife and her maid in a lifeboat. The women were rescued by the steamship RMS Carpathia, but Widener and his son Harry perished on the Titanic.[4] Their bodies, if recovered, were not identified.[5]
His mother built Harvard University’s Widener Memorial Hall.

Harry Elkins Widener

Widener’s godfather was the British banking magnate, Charles Mills [Eton, Magdalen College], the 2nd Baron Hillingdon. The Mills family part-owned the London bank Glyn, Mills & Co.[2,7] and held a close business relationships with the Rothschild family.
His mother built Harvard University’s Widener Memorial Hall.
Died 15 April 1912, from RMS Titanic Sinking. Age 27
