Spanish - American War (21 Apr 1898 to 13 Aug 1898)
Cuba was included in the Spanish treaty with America.
The Inner motivation with respect to this war has not yet been brought to light in documentary form. But these facts are certain:
Rockefeller’s paid henchmen on the floor of Congress wanted the war;
Hearst and Pulitzer demanded it;
Roosevelt and Lodge forced it;
McKinley and Hanna acquiesced in it;
And the Rockefeller-Stillman National City Bank benefited most directly from it;
For Cuba, the Philippines, and indeed, all of Latin America soon afterward became dotted with National City Branches, and the >Cuban sugar industry gravitated into National City’s hands.
Moreover, all of Wall Street, its eyes upon South America’s rich minerals resources, wanted the Isthmian Canal built (Panama >Canal); and Cuba and Pori Rico bore a strategic relational to the control of such a canal.[3,p62]
American: 385 Killed. 1,662 wounded. 11 prisoners. 2,061 dead from disease. 1 cargo ship sunk. 1 cruiser damaged
Spanish: 700-800 Killed. 700-800 wounded. 40,000+ prisoners. 15,000 dead from disease. 6 small ships sunk. 11 cruisers sunk. 2 destroyers.
