John Jacob Astor IV
Businessman, Real Estate Builder, Investor, Lieutenant Colonel in the Spanish-American. Harvard University. Pilgram Society. One of the 13 Bloodlines.
Astor was the richest passenger aboard the RMS Titanic and was thought to be among the richest peple in the world at that time.
At 47, Astor married 18-yr-old socialite Madeleine Talmage Force. Margret Brown (The Unsinkable Molly Brown) accompanied the Astors to Egypt and France. After recieving a call to return to the United States, Brown accompanied the couple back home abroad the RMS Titanic.[4]
Died 15 Apr 1912, during the sinking of the RMS Titanic. Age 47.
Note: It’s alledged that with the combined wealth and influence of Benjamin Guggenheim, Isidor and Ida Straus and John Jacob Astor they could have been a significant obstacle to the setting up of the Federal Reserve.
Note 2: 1912 to 1915 - Leland Stanford Stillman (S&B 1894), Manager, 1915 to 17, Assistant Secretary of Trust Department of Astor Trust Company of New York.](leland-stanford-stillman-sandb1894.html). After the sinking of the Titanic, Astor Trust Company merged with Bankers Trust Company of New York, 23 Apr 1917. Stillman (S&B 1894) become Assistant Secretary of Bankers Trust Company of New York, 1917 to 1926.
He built the Wardolf-Astoria Hotel, which later hosted the U.S. inquries into the sinking of the RMS Titanic, on which he died[1,4]
The Astor Estate “Ferncliff” was renamed “Astor Courts” and eventually became a wedding venue. Chelsea Clinton wed their on 31 Jul 2010.
